Thursday miscellanea #245

  • This has been the mildest July I can remember.
  • You heat up onions and/or garlic, and you’ll get a “that smells good!”  No one even cares what you’re making.  How do you know I’m not serving you that over butter pecan ice cream or something?
  • Despite the near-universal bad word-of-mouth, I think we might still give The Lone Ranger a shot on the big screen.  The trailer enthralled me both times I saw it.
  • Overheard on a children’s trip to the dentist yesterday:  “You might go ahead and talk to an orthodontist about that.”  Awesome.
  • The Google Chromecast dongle looks like an excellent use of $35.  In other news, dongle is a really funny word.
  • There are parts of Anniston that are in a genuine time warp.  You could take a photo in the Wakefield’s parking lot and not be able to tell if it was 1983 or 2013.
  • I’ve started outlining a post series on love and marriage.  What qualifies me to talk about that?  I’ve been happily married since 1997; I love women in general; I have a moral compass in good working order; and I’m really smart.  That’s pretty much it.  The series will start sometime before Labor Day, and it may appear as often as weekly.  Longtime readers know this will be heavy on commitment, respect, proper mindset, and things like that.  If you have any specific topic suggestions, fire away.  If you’d rather talk privately, please email.  Thanks.

  1. Looking forward to the love and marriage series. Not that I need it but it is always interesting to see what others say and think about the topic. I think it’ll be a good one, from you.

  2. Thank you, ma’am. I’m looking forward to it myself. Doing a lot of background and planning on it. The series may ultimately contain as many as 12 posts.
