Thursday miscellanea #230

  • This is week three of the spring soccer season.  The boys have yet to practice or play because of rain.  The forecast for the weekend looks good, though.
  • I imagine that’s cutting practice for the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama, too, but they’ll get full days in tomorrow and Saturday.
  • Jay Leno has announced that he’s leaving The Tonight Show next year.  He’s an obnoxious bully, and I hope he’s ultimately remembered thusly.  I’m certainly glad to contribute to his Google footprint in that manner.
  • More smoke on Auburn’s 2010.  Will there be fire this time?
  • I checked off the last two chilis at Anaheim Chili yesterday.  I’ve now tried all eleven.  The Cincinnati chili—with cinnamon, cloves, cocoa, and elbow macaroni—didn’t totally repulse me like it did my friend Tommy, but I did find it quite weird.  I won’t be getting it again.  The green chili, on the other hand, was delicious.  It’s got pork, potatoes, and a nice spicy body that placed it right at mid-pack with me in the restaurant’s offerings.  I’ll have it from time to time.
  • The mass-market car line with the best styling, top to bottom, is Hyundai.  The luxury car line with the best styling is Audi.
  • I never knew my paternal grandmother, and my boys never knew theirs.  That’s a solidarity I wish Dad and I didn’t have.  (Lea’s been helping Aaron with a genealogy project, and that’s something that’s been on my mind this week as a result.)

  1. Bo, you are such a level-headed, lets-look-at-both-sides, give-credit-where-credit-is-due kinda guy that your Auburn attitude has always sort of been a surprise to me. Here we have some young man who unfortunately seems to have turned into quite the thug…and like many bullying thug-type folks, seems determined to take anything and everything he can down with him. If this was an ex-Alabama player turned armed robber, you wouldn’t give the story the time of day. You know I love ya to death…but you’re all but rubbing your hands together in anticipatory glee and doing the evil villian chuckle over a guy making just stupid, unsubstantiated claims. Oh, and he threw the race card in there too…that’s nice.

  2. I moved to Cincinnati in my 20s and lived there for 7 years. I am under the impression that you almost have to grow up in that area to be able to appreciate their chili. It is usually served over spaghetti noodles (instead of elbow macaroni) and is almost always covered with shredded cheddar cheese and chopped onions. I never developed a taste for it and I’m not surprised that another Southern boy wasn’t impressed with it!

  3. Marianne, you misread the tone of my comment, or perhaps I was too oblique. I was saying “oh boy, let’s look at Auburn’s 2010 AGAIN! Maybe there’ll be something THIS time!” I was calling it ridiculous, not rubbing my hands in glee.

Dave, this had the cheese, the onions, and a few pintos over the top. I think the macaroni (as opposed to spaghetti) was a concession to the bowl form factor. I can say I’ve had it now. I’ll just leave it at that. 🙂

  4. Marianne, I didn’t communicate clearly. On me, not you. You are your usual fabulous self. 🙂

Minor correction to the first bullet: Nathan has been to one practice.
