Thursday miscellanea #212

  • We’re about 10 degrees cooler than normal for this time of year.  It’s making the difference between running the heat and not.
  • Lea did vegetable soup in the slow cooker yesterday.  Love it when I can smell it in the garage, right when I get out of the car!
  • We had a marvelous time at Walt Disney World.  I’ve written some about it here.  I’ll have a more lighthearted post up on BoWilliams.com tomorrow or Saturday.
  • As we passed Six Flags Over Georgia on the way home, my sons the new roller coaster addicts asked “Dad, why don’t we ever go there?”  Well, mostly because my Six Flags memories are of standing in line more than of riding.  Saintseester reports a highly positive experience at Dollywood.  Maybe that will be next.
  • The latest scuttlebutt on Windows Phone 7.8 is that it might be after the first of the year.  Come on, Microsoft.  Really?
  • Did you know that Jon Bon Jovi’s first appearance on record was on a 1980 Star Wars Christmas album?
  • Folks, please stop calling them “drones,” which sounds ignorant because it’s inaccurate.  Please use the term UAV.  That stands for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle.
  • Of the places I worked in high school and college, the only one that’s still around is Taco Bell on 20 in Madison.  That’s been 25 years ago now.  I must be middle-aged or something.

  1. Glad you had a good time at Disney.

It’s been 23 years since the Airport Rd. tornado. One of the local weathermen mentioned that he was 9 years old when that hit. Whippersnapper.

  2. We consider ourselves amusement park enthusiasts…BIG TIME….busch gardens Williamsburg is hands down the best so far. Branson sucks but silver dollar city is an extraordinarily fun and clean park of you get the chance. Hershey park is greAt for roller coaster addicts as it had eight last we went, and six were able to be ridden by the under 54″ set lol. Finally one tip…it seems if you visit any theme park on mothers day, and if you get thre at opening time, you will have the whole place relatively to,your collective selves until about 2 pm. It has worked for,us at ALL locations. : )

  3. Miria, wow. That does bring it home, doesn’t it? I was at the UAH library when it hit.

Susan, my sister lives in Williamsburg, so we’ll definitely put that in our pocket!

  4. Jeff was close enough to the Airport Rd. tornado that he ended up having to abandon his car and walk out. He came back the next day to pick it up, and it had a big “OK” spray painted on it. They had checked the car for bodies.

I agree with Susan on Hershey Park. I enjoyed it, and I’m not much of a roller coaster fanatic.
