Thursday miscellanea #209

  • Madison Police has a marked black Tahoe (same color scheme as the Charger they’ve had for a while).  Y’all be careful.  Haven’t seen the unmarked Tahoe state trooper lately.
  • It seems my Microsoft Surface tablet with the keyboard cover is going to be $630.  I’ve been sure I’d get one.  Now I’m not (sure).
  • Just about the only reason my blogroll ever gets shorter is that folks stop writing (and I give you a long time—months—before you fall off).  If you’re not there anymore, nothing personal—it’s just that you quit.  If you want back on, I’d love to have you.  Write something and let me know.
  • Two days ago I was deluged with news of A.J. McCarron’s torn meniscus.  Yesterday that was not the story.  Still watching closely.
  • This Saturday night, Coach Saban goes for 6-0 as Alabama coach vs. Tennessee.  Wouldn’t it be great for him to retire and be, say, 13-0 against the Volunteers?
  • “Our” new Wal-Mart Supercenter is nearing completion.  I wonder if I’ll ever use 72 between County Line Rd. and Slaughter Rd. again?
  • Was doing a bit of reading on programming languages yesterday, and encountered this marvelous bit of Perl poetry.  It’s been out there 22 years, so I’m sure it’s not news to any true code jockeys, but I certainly enjoyed it.
  • Yesterday was my blog’s six-year anniversary.  Some days I like what I do here; others I feel like I’m dragging it along.  I’ve given myself an informal deadline of the end of the year to figure out what I want to do next online.
  • Thank you so much for reading BoWilliams.com.  Bloggers want to be read.  Bloggers who say they don’t care about that are lying.

  1. Just so you know, I rather enjoy reading your commentary because it covers just about anything, which is cool. I may not necessarily agree with you on every single thing, but that’s what makes it interesting to me. Keep it up. It helps me feel like I’m staying in touch with you even if we’re not talking all the time 🙂

  2. I’m curious what you mean by saying you may never use 72 between slaughter and county line again. Are you referring to the cherry picked annexation of parcels that Huntsville’s done in that area? I know the new Walmart falls in Huntsville, but the Target, Lowe’s, and Publix don’t as far as I can tell.

  3. Thanks, bigdave. It didn’t escape my notice that we whiffed on the lake this season, BTW. We’ll get there.

Tahm, ‘seester, indeed—the traffic. I can almost get to Target without using 72, but I’ll have to go the last bit there. That’s OK. Balch is enough east of it to be an appealing alternative.

Moving east and west in Madison is not fun, though Gillespie to Hughes to Eastview to Slaughter works pretty well most of the time.

  5. Terri, what a nice thing to say. Thank you.

It’s hard for me to imagine not having some kind of frequent online presence, and it’s also hard for me to imagine not doing it at BoWilliams.com. But I do feel some amount of retooling coming.

  6. What Terri said. I like reading what you write. I understand if you are like me and feel a little burned out on politics at the moment. It’s been a long, brutal campaign season.
