Hold still and relax

Don’t you love the snap! of a latex glove?

My friend Marianne has the dubious honor of being the first person I know to lose her current medical insurance and provider in 2013.  The notice she received specifically cites the health care reform law as the reason for the change.  The replacement plan covers less, costs more, and contains considerably more restrictions.

“If you like your current plan, you can keep it.” – Barack Obama

It is reasonable to expect many more of these announcements in the next few weeks as employers enter open enrollment.  Here’s hoping the electorate directs its rage accurately on November 6.

  1. I took the FB post down because I realized that the info had not been distributed company-wide yet (will be tomorrow). But yeah, it stinks. You would have thought The One would have been smarter about it & not have had impacts apparent before mid-november.

  2. I use the prescription by mail program for my heart meds. My co-pay has quadrupled since Obamacare passed. At least I still have coverage.

  3. So it was an employer based policy that went away? I’m curious to know what actually made it go away? Sudden excessive cost? Not allowed for some reason? Etc. If you happen to know and don’t mind sharing.

  5. My understanding is that the penalty for not being insured is around $79. If I’ve been given accurate information it is far cheaper for employers to pay the penalty than to subsidize insurance costs.

  6. I’ve begun to allow myself a modicum of hope that The One will lose.

Truth is, if it’s happening to Marianne, there’s an excellent chance it’s going to happen to me too. I’m just hanging on and hoping for the best.
