Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day is Wednesday, August 1

I’ll be having breakfast and lunch at Chick-fil-A on Wednesday in a show of support for the business.  I encourage you to do the same.  (Click here for the post reporting on the actual events of Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day.)

Mike Huckabee may have started Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day—that’s certainly the impression he gives on Facebook, and frankly I don’t know how accurate it is—but the issues are much larger than one person or another’s interpretation of “Christian values.”  The widespread excoriation, and indeed governmental bullying, of a private citizen expressing his views is nothing short of a thoroughly irrational assault on the First Amendment.

As I said earlier, they may or may not be your views, and actually they’re not altogether mine either.  (I did love the “first wives” line.)  But neither are they radical.  When such an expression is followed by several sincere threats to prevent a company from doing business, and there are lots of people nodding right along, then that’s a big problem.

I’ve had enough mindless jackass liberal outrage.

  1. I’m with you Bo in that it’s something people are blowing way out of proportion. Whether or not it’s tied to religion really shouldn’t even be at play here. It is a business, who has set its position on something. If it displeases someone, then don’t do business with them. That’s a risk Chik-fil-a has made, they understand how it might affect their revenues.

I do think it’s a bit strange for a company to get so in the middle of such a hot political topic, but once again, they know the risk they take.

I won’t be eating there much, but it has nothing to do with any of this stuff. I just don’t eat fast food very much, if at all. When I do, Chik-fil-a isn’t on the bottom of my list, but it’s not on the top of my list either, once again having nothing to do w/ any of this.

So in conclusion, I don’t really care too much about all this, and I think people are getting their panties in too much of a wad over something they really shouldn’t (on both sides of the argument).

  2. Had breakfast at Madison location. There were eight or nine cars in front of me at the drive-through before 6:30 in the morning. Very cool. They seemed ready for it.
