Shop Ford. Buy Ford.

I would love to have a new car right now.

Yeah, I know; who wouldn’t?  But see, I shop for cars continually and recreationally.  I have since I was 11 or so.  I’ve had a subscription to Car and Driver for decades.

Mind, I’m not getting anything anytime soon.  The Technical Writing Express only has 52,000 miles on it, and my pickup still runs great.  Lea’s van will be next up for replacement, but even that is probably spring 2014 at the earliest.  (You do the timing belt on a Honda, you want to keep it a good while longer.)

So anyway, when I’m perusing the current offerings—you know, thinking crazy stuff like “if I went to buy a car at lunch today instead of get a Subway club and listen to Rush Limbaugh, what would it be?”—I’ve noticed something.  I don’t consider GM or Chrysler products at all.  You see, those companies function in their current states because things of which I don’t approve happened.

Those should have been two bankruptcies under existing laws.  Instead, they were “managed” by the Obama administration, preserving absurdly unsustainable union interests (and virtually guaranteeing a reprise).

So I’m delighted that Ford, who took no government handout, is highly competitive top to bottom—not just against domestic rivals, but against the world at large.

If you need a new car, please check out the Ford offering(s)in the segment in which you’re shopping.  They have great stuff.  Plus, my pickup is a Ford.

I have no connection other than being a satisfied customer.

And a patriot.

  1. I’ve had the new car bug for a while. It is gonna be a while before I pull the trigger as well. Ford is on my list, but damn, my Jeep has been a beast and reliable as hell. I’ll be keeping it and getting an additional vehicle or turning it in for another one.

  2. Well said. And exactly the reason there is a black Mustang in our driveway instead of some other car. I still believe Hondas are the best made vehicles on the planet, but when the current SAR-mobile (Suburban) has to be replaced, we’ll be looking at Expeditions I believe.

  3. Dude. If I could buy a car right now, I would. And number one on the list of cars I’d be looking at is a Focus.

I rented one a few years ago when the Cruiser was getting body work. 41 mpg highway, and tricked out just as I like it. Comfortable to sit in, and dang dangerous for those of us with a lead foot to drive.

I love my Cruiser. But Chrysler long ago decided against making practical, affordable options. They lost my business well before handouts made the headlines.
