Thursday miscellanea #186

  • Hypoallergenic dogs and cats?  Yes, I’ve heard of those.  I wouldn’t have guessed you had 15 choices, though.
  • Watched five minutes of the Braves game last night, but it was the right five minutes to see a grand slam.  Very cool.
  • Good to see Charles last night.  Been too long since we Banditoed.
  • I think it was a contributing factor in my sluggish start today, though.  The dark and the rain, each of perfect intensity, seriously ganged up on me.  This was the first morning in some time where I felt like I could have slept another four hours.
  • If the manual transmission is going to die, I don’t think it’s particularly soon.  Even beyond enthusiasts—which are a small but persistent number of consumers—there’s still a proportionately large cost advantage in entry-level market segments.
  • I’m a little bummed that Phillip Sims is transferring from Alabama, though certainly I understand it.  Good luck and thanks, man.
  • I guess I’m never going to be an art guy.  I was a lot less impressed that someone was going to be able to buy “The Scream” when I found out there were four of them.

  1. I’m bummed about the Sims transfer too. We are now one hard shot on AJ away from having a freshman developmental “project” at QB. Yikes.

  2. You may have noticed my car is a manual transmission. Not only does it make driving more enjoyable, but my wife can’t drive them so the car is mine at all times 🙂

  3. Jenny, indeed. Makes me doubly appreciate the caliber of our OL.

Dave, learning to drive a manual well puts you in deeper connection with the entire environment. Automatics are better than they’ve ever been, but they’re still only so “smart” (and plus, most of them are programmed to strongly prefer getting to a high gear as quickly as possible for the fuel economy, whether it’s prudent for the situation or not).
