Santorum in Huntsville

A thoroughly familiar-looking group of subversive right-winger types and I set out for the U.S. Space and Rocket Center this morning to see and hear Rick Santorum speak.  He looked to have twice Newt’s crowd, as well as a robust Secret Service complement.

Seeing and hearing two major presidential candidates made for a pretty cool week, I must say.

As I tweeted earlier today, he gets it.  This whole concept of individuals free to pursue their own happiness, and its central role in building a nation, has become some radical notion under our esteemed president.  (Because, you know, all good things flow from government.)  Oh, and I was so frightened he was going to ask us to join him in his declaration of war on women.  (‘Cause, you know, that’s what he does.)

And yes, you should imagine me rolling my eyes as you read the previous sentence.

Santorum did have something Newt didn’t have—a protester.  As he was wrapping his speech, this guy to my immediate right started yelling “Boo!  Boo!  You’ll never get the moderates, Rick!  You can’t get the moderates!”  Then a guy in front of him turned around and asked “if you’re a moderate, then why are you yelling?”  Great line!  Huntsville police escorted him from the premises in another 30 seconds or so, and that was that.

I enjoy being in the company of lots of people who haven’t lost their damned minds.  It helps me stay positive about November.
