Thursday miscellanea #153

  • We got more than four inches of rain on Labor Day at our house, thanks to the remnants of Lee.
  • I saw a large biting fly yesterday that I’m pretty sure was a species of Chrysops, commonly known as deer flies.  Interestingly, she was much louder than all of the horse flies I’ve ever encountered.
  • I’m unrecoverably behind on my read-the-Bible-in-a-year plan.  However, now that it’s September, the idea of starting over in 2012 doesn’t feel quite so pathetic.  I think I’m going to start by mapping the January 1, 2012 reading to November 1, 2011, and give myself 60 built-in pushes.
  • Installing Windows XP on a machine without an optical drive is much, much harder than it should be.  If you think you’d like a Linux distribution on your netbook but aren’t sure, install it in addition to, not instead of your existing Windows installation.  Take my word for it.
  • I see that V collapsed under the weight of its own suckitude.  Maybe we can get something a little closer to the original spirit next time around.
  • I still check on Carbon Motors once in a while.  There are more cool photos, and the excitement jumps off the web page, but it seems awfully full of RSN to me.  I’m pretty sure multiple “release dates” have come and gone.
  • Will Auburn even get to .500?

  1. Right now Auburn is at 1.000. And as much as I hate to say it they will probably beat LSU this year because that is the game LSU is wearing the stupid Nike Pro Combat uniforms. Good Lord, I hope they are not too embarrassing.

  2. Auburn will have a tough year. I knew their defense was young, but was surprised at how small and slow they looked. Couldn’t believe that USU was able to run the ball at will. No way LSU loses to them. LSU has a legitimate running game, and their defense is just plain scary, much like Bama. Will anyone cross midfield when Bama and LSU play each other?

  3. My LSU loss to Auburn prediction had nothing to do with actual abilities on the field. It had to do with LSU jinxed by stupid looking uniforms hyped by a company, not a school or conference, just to sell more stuff.

I HATE those “Pro Combat” clown suits. That are NOT SEC football, they are European soccer fluff.

  4. Marianne, I’m sorry. I’m tired of it. I’m ready for Auburn to be the perennial fifth- or sixth-best team in the SEC again. You know, where they belong? (Might be ninth- or tenth-best this year, though. Yipes. We’ll learn a lot starting at 11:20 tomorrow morning.) I like an Auburn that knows its place.

Cookie Monster, heartily agreed on the stupid uniform crap.
