Thursday miscellanea #146

  • Dear Space Transportation System:  there you’ve been, nearly all my life.  Farewell, and thank you for the wonders.
  • I really want a nixie clock.  Buy me one?
  • Glad to hear no one was seriously hurt when the stage collapsed during Cheap Trick’s set at the Ottawa Bluesfest.  That easily could have been catastrophic.
  • I was in our new Kroger for the first time yesterday, looking (in vain) for my favorite mustard, which is suddenly and inexplicably unavailable around here.  What’s up with that?  Anyway, yes, there really might be such a thing as a grocery store that’s too big.
  • Speaking of such, somebody told me there were bison steaks to be had at Earth Fare.  I might have to check that out.  I just assumed it was all wheat grass, tofu, and hirsute shoppers reeking of sandalwood and BO.
  • If I park absolutely as far away as I can in the parking lot, it’s an honest-to-goodness quarter of a mile from my car to my desk.  That’s awesome.
  • Want a new(ish) DeLorean?  You can get in one cheaper than you may think.  I recommend a substantial power upgrade.  They were dogs off the assembly line.

  1. Yes, Virginia, there is such a thing as a grocery that is too big. I hate that new Kroger. I longingly remember the neighborhood groceries in New Orleans. Teeny tiny aisles, with teeny tiny carts to get through them. They were perfect for the park and grab shopping. Plus, they all had delis in the back with such wonderfulness as fresh boiled crabs.

Earth Fare has some delightfully rich whole been coffees for sale, as well as some of the best desserts ever (in the deli area – their tiramisu is divine). Oh, and Mexican Coke. You should check them out.

  2. ‘seester, let’s go to Earth Fare next week for lunch and a walk.

Jenny, the exact name of it is Sweet Hot. I’m pretty sure they’ve killed it and replaced it with the five-pepper one. ‘Preciate you looking out for it, but I don’t think you’re going to find it.

Just more proof that when it comes to live shows, Cheap Trick is no Great White.
