Cleansing GOP fires, round 1

Well, I, for one, am well and truly shocked that Donald Trump has withdrawn from the 2012 presidential race.  It’s a real shame when a serious, grounded, person of principle like Trump, who is not at all an egomaniacal freak show, can’t receive the serious coverage he deserves from a mass media machine all too obsessed with the superficial.

But, that’s what we’ve wrought.

Huckabee’s out.  Everyone but Newt knows Newt’s out, and I’m pleased to see him stumbling so early.  Maybe he’ll get the message this time.  Romney’s digging chewing gum out of the sole of his shoe on health care, and I hope he stays there.

Ron Paul will receive my support through the primary, of course.  I think my early favorite who might actually have a chance to win is Herman Cain.  I like some things about Mitch Daniels and Tim Pawlenty, but I’m wondering if there isn’t a bit too much of a charisma deficit in each case.

Who do you like?

  1. I actually liked the idea of Trump. Because he is a business man and NOT a politician. I like that he has plenty of money and really doesn’t need anyone to pay him off for anything. I hate his hair, mouth and pretty much hearing him speak. So, that is as far as I have gotten with my political thoughts for the upcoming election. I will think on it some more soon. I knew you’d support Paul. When I saw his name, I thought of you. 🙂

  2. Every one of these guys (and girls) has some sort of fatal flaw. For example – Paul’s ok with legalizing hard drugs. That’s a BIG x in the negative column for me. Legalize pot? Fine. Legalize Cocaine? Heroin? Crack? Crytal meth? No effin’ way!

Right now I like Cain or Gary Johnson, with a slight edge going to Cain.

  3. I like Herman Cain. I always have. I’d vote for Mickey Effing Mouse if he ran in 2012 and was the only candidate vs. The Anointed One, but I’d prefer Herman Cain.

  4. Jenny, if you like the positives a businessman would bring to the White House, check out Herman Cain. I’m not a straight policy match with him (am I with anyone?), but he certainly seems like a person I’d like to be president.

‘seester, he’s a reluctant warrior (as in too reluctant). That was his biggest problem last time.

Falcon, did you know you could buy heroin at the drugstore less than 100 years ago? I agree with you that coke and heroin aren’t pot, but I’m not at all convinced their decriminalization would create more problems than it would solve.

Kemtee, he’s supposed to announce this Saturday. If he’s still a candidate on Sunday, I may send him a check.

And ditto. Someone not named Obama is getting my vote.

  5. Been poking around on the series of tubes and just read that Bayer actually marketed heroin at the turn of the century as a “non-addictive morphine substitute.” What a howler! Heroin (very quickly) turns straight into morphine in your body.

  6. To me the biggest difference between pot and the other drugs is that – to the best of my knowledge – no one’s ever been driven to kill someone else in an effort to get their next hit on the ol’ skull bong.

Now, maybe I just got brainwashed by Nancy Reagan back when I was a teenager in the 80s, but I’m pretty sure the same thing can’t be said for any of those other drugs.

  7. Right now, I like Pawlenty. And with Huckabee out and Gingrich torpedoing his own campaign, Pawlenty is well positioned to move up in the polls. His main problem right now is a lack of name recognition.

But make no mistake, whoever gets the nomination gets my vote.

  8. Jenny, not a tough call, is it?

Rush was making racket about Rick Perry today. Easy to forget how early it is, and how dramatically this could still reshape.
