Thursday miscellanea #129

  • I’d really love to liveblog what I’m doing right now, but I don’t sufficiently trust my ability to bring the humor out of it, and if I didn’t reliably make it funny it would suck.  Maybe I’ll write about it later.
  • I hope you have had, or are having, a marvelous St. Patrick’s Day.  Sláinte mhaith!
  • I quit Scott Pilgrim vs. the World at the halfway point last night, finding it spastically, numbingly stupid.  I’m chalking this one up primarily to my advancing age.  I can still connect with some of what these crazy kids nowadays are into, but I definitely wasn’t cool enough for this.
  • I find faith in the human race in odd places sometimes.  The other day I drove past a tree that had a wheel cover leaning on it.  Of course, the way that happens is someone’s car slings it off; then someone else walks by, sees it, and stands it up to make it easier to find in case the car’s owner comes back looking for it.  I know it’s hardly anything for the walker to stand it up, but s/he’s still thinking of a stranger when s/he does.
  • Nathan just wondered aloud if the Imperial March plays when Darth Vader walks down the hall to the bathroom.
  • The Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame definitely has its issues, but I’m still delighted to see my longtime favorite Neil Diamond get that recognition.  Congratulations, thank you, and God bless, sir.
  • I haven’t said anything about the earthquake and tsunami, because, well, what can you say other than that you’re praying?  I’m mentioning it now to express my deep admiration for the honor and dignity with which the people of Japan, upon which unimaginable destruction has been visited, are conducting themselves.  Lea and I have not yet donated, but we will.  (No reason to hurry, really.  Sadly, I expect urgent need to last for quite some time in this case.)
