I’ll name him Wilbur

So many of you thoughtfully ask every year what you can buy me for Christmas.  Feel free to pool your resources this year.  I want a piggy bank made out of a real piglet.

Order it here.  It takes up to a year for the taxidermy and other logistics to be completed.  Oh, and they’re $4,000 apiece (perhaps Canadian, but as I write that happens to be just about $4,000 U.S. as well).

Read a bit more about it, including some of the hysterical hand-wringing crowd’s reaction, here.

As one of the business owners says (more or less) to his detractors in the article, what’d you have for lunch?  Own any leather goods?

So what’s the problem?

  1. Lee, I suppose it’s vaguely disturbing, but do you find it morally and/or ethically reprehensible? Note that they don’t kill the piglets to do this; they die of natural causes first, according to the catalog description.

  2. Bo, I’d say “vaguely disturbing” accurately describes my feelings on the subject. I don’t think I would want to associate with anyone who thought owning such a thing would be a good idea.
