On burning the Koran in Florida this weekend

I’m not caring much at all for a Florida pastor’s plan to burn 200 copies of the Koran this Saturday.

I don’t dispute his legal right to do it, nor do I wholly dismiss his message as without merit.  I just can’t see it as a way to build understanding.  It poisons the dialogue without any positive return.  It’s rude and disrespectful.  It’s a bad idea, and it would be better if it didn’t happen.

Hmmm…

  1. I have to agree.

OTOH, I’ve always been of the eye-for-an-eye mentality. They persecute and kill Christians. They destroy any copies of our books found in their countries. Hell, they killed those traveling doctors without blinking an eye on the charge that they were preaching Christianity, not saving peoples’ eyesight.

The West is a tolerate, moderate, collection of wimps and has been for too long. Islam and the radical factions within it are a culture of violence that only understands violence.

The burning of the Koran isn’t a smart thing to do, for many reasons. The crackpot preacher pushing this activity should probably be shut down. I don’t want our boots on the ground in harm’s way – or any American traveling abroad – because of some crazy-arsed rabble rouser and his brainwashed flock.

But I can sympathize with the enough-is-enough, see how YOU like it protest POV.

  2. Oh sure…it’s alright for them to burn our flags/books and kill our troops and volunteers, but heaven forbid we turn the tables on them. That being said, I don’t think burning the Koran is the way to go.

  3. Now it’s being reported that Jones is canceling the book-burning because the Ground Zero mosque imam has agreed to move it, and this was allegedly moderated by a Florida imam, only the GZ mosque imam says that wasn’t the deal. (Can’t be bothered with looking up the imams’ names. I’m an ugly American.)

Also, Donald Trump has offered to buy the property for 25% more than the current owners paid. Think that’s what I heard.

There is nothing even approaching parity between the West’s treatment of Islam and vice versa. No sane person could quibble with such.

  4. Damn god thing we Americans don’t work the same way as the Muslims. If we took their approach, every time they burned an American Flag or torched a non-Muslim church we would all go crazy and torch a couple of dozen mosques.

I could almost see justification for retaliation against the offending church but not condemning a whole population (Americans or Christians) because of a few nut cases.
