This fellow was surprisingly hard to specifically identify with a quick Google. If you know what it is, speak up. It was hanging out on the front porch when the BamaDans left tonight after an afternoon and evening of stimulating fellowship.

Falcon, it’s too big to be a Japanese beetle; it’s a good inch and a half long. I did a little more poking around this morning and best I can tell it’s a dung beetle, perhaps Dichotomius annae.
Easy one. Thast’s a JUUUUUULIO Beetle. It apparently can’t catch a cold during spring time, unlike the related, but better coordinated (in spring) Hanks Beetle. I guess it could be a Marcel Dareus Beetle.

Kemtee – Bo found it on the porch and brought it IN THE HOUSE to take a picture. (He didn’t do that in front of me – the boys tattled on him.) At the time, I thought, “Oh there is going to be HELL to pay if that thing gets loose in here!”
