Thursday miscellanea #74

  • Today is the 31st anniversary of the “Islamic Revolution” in Iran.  It’s also probably the least stable the regime has been since then.  Hope for good things.
  • This winter has been relentless, both in temperature and precipitation.  The cars are so dirty.  If I do get a 50-degree day, it’s invariably followed in 48 hours or so by rain, so what’s the point?
  • I really enjoyed Moon as fairly hardcore science fiction that doesn’t hold your hand.  I could sure stand seeing a film or two a year like this.
  • By the way, excessive length has settled into my #1 movie peeve position.  If you’re anywhere north of an hour forty-five or so, there better be a damned good reason.  More often than not it’s just masturbatory beyond there.
  • You really have no idea how often you casually brush your shin against things until you have a substantial interest in not doing so, as in a wound there that shoots pain through your whole leg every time you do so.
  • The only truly bad thing about Bac~Os® is the inevitable Bac~Os® burp.  It’s clockwork, just about four hours later.  Yuck.
  • Lent approaches.  I’m pretty sure alcoholic beverages will get the starring role this year.  (It’s been a really long time since I could say “I don’t drink and I don’t smoke.”)
