Only the best in convalescent digital entertainment

Back to work (and an outside world I haven’t seen in about 87 hours) in a bit.  I’m confident that residual (minor) discomfort is mere repair work, and that the pathogen is vanquished.  (I know Lea will miss me sprawled on the couch watching television twelve hours a day.)

Here are three things I did during my acute illness and convalescence instead of read a classic or two:

  • I’m about halfway through season four of The Office.  How can a show do both over-the-top slapstick and subtle hilarity so well?  Thing is, as much as I’m enjoying it, I still won’t watch it in its regular time slot.  I suspect I’m irreversibly acclimated to the lack of commercials.  I’ll wait for season six on Netflix.
  • I bought Terminator Salvation on Blu-ray when it came out, and just watched it yesterday.  I thought it was terrific.  I loved the immersive design of the post-Judgment Day world, especially all of the great effects work on Skynet’s various baddies.  I found it well cast and tautly paced.  My expectations were definitely exceeded, given the mixed reviews I’d read.
  • A Kingdom for Keflings was on special for 400 measly Microsoft Points, and we bit.  (It’s easily worth the normal price of 800 too.)  Gently but unmistakably addicting, I’d say.  You have no idea how hard it’s gotcha until it’s too late.  It’s a low-stress build-a-city game, and there’s really no way to lose.  If you play long enough, you’ll accomplish the objectives.  But see, I’m already going back through my initial pass and saying “okay, what if I did this instead, and built this here, and…”

See y’all ’round sooner.
