Thursday miscellanea #59

  • Do you see colored patterns when you close your eyes and look at the blackness?  The ones I see have been the same as long as I can remember—and that’s back to about 18 months.
  • I just saw a guy wearing a cowboy hat driving a Honda Civic.  Umm…you can’t do that.  After giving it a little thought, I decided you can safely wear a cowboy hat and drive a) an American body-on-frame truck; or b) a Cadillac convertible.  A few other vehicles are highly questionable; most other vehicles are completely ridiculous.
  • A few years back, I decided to get all of the well-regarded mob movies made within the last 30 years or so that I hadn’t seen.  I had a great time watching a lot of great films.  One that I bought then that I still haven’t seen is Once Upon a Time in America.  What happens is I sit down in the mood for a mob movie, and I always watch GoodFellas again instead.
  • Speaking of GoodFellas, I’d make popsicles from Ileana Douglas’s bathwater.  She might be my weirdest celebrity crush.
  • I had “pinkpantsclub.com” pop into my head during a meeting earlier this week.  I have no idea what it means, but it isn’t taken.  Go register it and make a kabillion dollars with it.  I’m certain it’s important.  I’ve got a sort of Richard Dreyfuss/Devil’s Tower thing going on with it.
  • Are we doing anything to get new generations excited about the accordion?  Make fun if you must, but wouldn’t it’d be a shame if it faded into history just because no one remembered how to play the damned thing?
  • Tapegate, and orange jerseys, and blah, blah, blah.  Y’all just get down here so we can pound you.

  1. RE Mob movies – Le Cercle Rouge, Le Samorai, Rififi are probably more heist than mob. State of Grace (Irish Mob) and Miller’s Crossing (natch)…I guess Gangs of New York. Even Mobsters with Christian Slater wasn’t all bad. I need to start The Yakua Papers for Japanese mob. Once…America isn’t half bad after they got the full cut released. I know you’re no huge fan of The Departed. Mrs. BD says you’re nuts.

I’m a fan of disaster flicks and end of the world movies. That plus Cusack makes 2012 interesting to me. It looks totally popcorn, but John Cusack makes all films better.

  2. I typed my longest comment ever earlier and upon submitting, the server hiccuped and ate it. Me no likey!

To summarize. I see patterns too. Not all the time. When I do they constantly change.

Pinkpantsclub.com and Richard Dreyfuss/Devil’s Tower conjures up images of Close Encounters of the Kind I’d Rather Not Have In My Head. Thank you so much. (Not that there is anything wrong with that!)

  3. ‘seester: As much of a fan as I am of GoodFellas, I have not seen My Blue Heaven. I need to Netflix that to see if I want to own it. Thanks. (Your URL is defective in some way, BTW.)

BB_FAN: I think you have to be Bandit. I vetoed the F-bodies for the same reason I vetoed Mustangs–too much variability.

BamaDan: There’s a whole bunch! Thanks. Mrs. BD, as a straight woman, probably has a lot less trouble telling all those guys apart than I do. Remember, that was a big part of my problem with The Departed. If you want company, I’ll go see 2012 (Lea’d be a definite non-starter on that one).

Lee: Sorry about that! Sometimes, if I’m posting a comment on another blog and it’s feeling flaky beforehand, I’ll copy it all to the Clipboard before I post it. Don’t know if you had any warning or not, but put that in your pocket.

Mine constantly change too, but they always change in the same way. They follow a tight script.

Re: unpleasant images: I’m confident it won’t be the last time. 🙂
