Obama’s bid to bring Olympics to Chicago defeated in first round of voting

“But here’s the most interesting question about today’s Olympic vote: Why didn’t Obama see this coming? He spends all this time, gets all this press, uses all this political capital to promote Chicago, and then loses? What an amateur. Prosecutors don’t ask witnesses questions in court unless they’re sure of the answers. Presidents don’t stake their personal reputations on contests whose outcomes are uncertain. Very foolish move. No wonder he can’t get health care passed.” – Tucker Carlson, The Washington Post

boolympicsI wrote earlier in the week that I suspected he wouldn’t be taking this trip if it wasn’t already a done deal.  Nope!  He was going in to dazzle.  He was risking his political capital and the prestige of the presidency, as this story puts it, because how could he fail?  He’s The One.

Throw in Michelle babbling about the “sacrifice” of a transatlantic flight attended by dozens of minions on one of the most luxurious airliners in the world (I hope to God she had organic kale), and how children’s athletic program funding drying up means kids can’t learn to ride bikes anymore (huh?), and clearly, the IOC heard enough.

It just wasn’t the “enough” the Obamas thought it was.

Hey, want to talk timing?  They’re shilling for the Games while those horrible mob murder videos from Chicago are circulating.  Can you say “tin ear”?

Sorry if the below is a repeat for you, but it’s good.  Here are the Top 10 reasons and excuses Chicago didn’t get the Olympics:

10.  Dead people can’t vote at IOC meetings.

9.  Obama was distracted by his 25-minute meeting with General McChrystal.

8.  “That I couldn’t talk the Olympics into Chicago doesn’t mean I can’t talk Iran out of nukes.”

7.  “The impediment is that Israel is still building settlements.”

6.  “Obviously no president would have been able to accomplish this.”

5.  “We’ve been quite clear and said all along that we didn’t want the Olympics.”

4.  “This isn’t about the number of Olympics ‘lost’; it’s about the number of Olympics ‘saved’ or ‘created.'”

3.  Clearly, there weren’t enough wise Latina judges on the committee.

2.  The IOC is racist.

1.  It’s Bush’s fault.

Here’s one of the first pieces talking about what a victory this is for Obama (yeah, I’m serious).  Favorite quote:

Certainly one reason the United States got the high hat was the lingering bad taste of George W. Bush. The global community, after eight years of sneering contempt from Washington, DC, isn’t ready to rinse with the Obama mouthwash.

Few things are as polemically entertaining as a floundering liberal.

I don’t like the Olympics, and I don’t like Barack Obama.  I love that he got pasted in Copenhagen.  This failure so effectively embodies the two traits that make Obama a rotten president:  breathtaking arrogance and obscene inexperience.

Keep it up, Barry.  Might be time for another address to Congress.

  1. Of COURSE it’s Bush’s fault. Duh.

See, there’s no reason for me to work up a sweat and elevate my already dicey blood pressure when you can do the work for me so succinctly. Gracias, merci, grazie, kiitos, danke, and all that globalista talk.

  2. Unclaimed: I love our country. Dislike for the Olympics and Obama meshes quite well with said love, actually.

kemtee: It’s not the job you did with the address to the joint session of Congress, but pleased to reciprocate somewhat. 🙂

  3. Why can’t the world get over it?, Obama won.! It seems his honeymoon is already over. I think his worldwide apology tour and his personal arrogance aren’t winning over too many people these days. Kim, Jung Il and Ahmedinejad don’t seem to be impressed. They can smell the weakness and are doing just as they please. Even our allies in Europe seem uncomfortable with the leader of the United States just trying to be “one of the guys.”

I checked in at HuffPo and observed the liberal meltdown over there. The main theme seems to be…If you think it’s amusing how Dear Leader got his ego deflated then it must mean you’re not a loyal American. Unreal.

  4. Losing the Olympics means the terrorists win…

Rio or Chicago? Really? I mean, REALLY!?! Have you seen the party those folks can throw and how hot their women are? Sure they have some nasty crime and the favelas are a mess, but Rio is going to be wicked cool. And a really good opportunity to re-watch _City Of God_

  5. Can you provide some type of explanation why you say Obama ia arrogant ?

Also, if it was Dems lauding the Olympic bid loss while a republican pres was in office, do you think they would be called unpatriotic ?

  6. RioChick: I consider arrogance to be Obama’s defining characteristic, particularly his (apparent) belief that giving good speeches is all it was going to take to get this POTUS thing licked. Specifically, his arrogance here was believing that his presence and oratory would carry the day. I enjoyed this blog post on the topic.

I believe it would be unambiguously better for the United States if the scourge that is the Olympics never roosted here again. Consequently I believe anyone who wants the Games in the U.S. is less patriotic. 🙂

  7. “It was almost unimaginable that a president would actually go abroad if he didn’t have it wired. And look, this was the perfect audience for him, a collection of global Euro-trash who love all this anti-American stuff, and it didn’t even work on them.” – Charles Krauthammer
