Perpetual motion, killer clouds, and other revelations

Do you have any “pet” web sites you visit?  I don’t mean stuff you hit daily, but stuff you just kind of pop in on every once in a while, maybe even for dubious reasons?

I check on Tom Bearden’s web site occasionally. (Edit 08/04/2022: the web site appears to no longer exist.) I’d guess I drop by a couple of times a year.  He’s this guy (in my area, actually) who claims to have co-invented and built perpetual motion machines, and that the Yakuza controls our weather, and that the Russians blew up the space shuttle, and stuff like that.

He’s into “explaining” “the errors and omissions in today’s electrical physics and the inventors (and their devices) who have exploited these gaping holes to pioneer the production of free electrical energy from the infinite vacuum all around us.”

His current Wikipedia article (Edit 08/04/2022: the Wikipedia page appears to no longer exist.) diplomatically states that his ideas “have received no noteworthy support in the scientific community.”

Indeed.

I don’t remember where I first encountered Bearden.  It may have been at James Randi’s site, or perhaps on Usenet.  In any case, once in a while I’ll think to check out his page, to see what he’s “discovered” in the months since I’ve last read him.

Generally, on such a visit, I’m re-persuaded to dismiss him as an unusually intellectual-sounding fraud.  But if he is just peddling snake oil, wouldn’t he recognize how much more effective he’d be if his site looked like it was made sometime after 1995?  Heh.

I do chuckle and think of the fellow whenever I see an unusually regular cloud formation.  That’s evidence of maliciously engineered weather, you see.
