Wading bird party

Our rainfall has mostly leveled out for the year, but we had such a wet spring that several acres of low-lying farmland on my commute have been underwater for several months.  I notice an egret or two there most times I drive by, and I’ve been thinking “I need to grab my camera.”

Well, I did so at lunch today, and I picked a good day.  It was a party.

Score!  There were at least 20 birds there today—six common egrets, a great blue heron, and a lot of what I believe are juvenile mallards.

  1. I’m always fascinated with the Egrets and Great Blue Herons. We have a resident GBH and it’s just gorgeous to watch.

    Thanks for sharing the photos.

  2. nhfalcon: I had the same thought, but I haven’t often seen a heron like this in the company of so many other birds. Usually when I see one, it’s by itself. So perhaps this is the first time I’ve ever had the scale to compare (?).

azn8tive: They’re cool, aren’t they? It’s a little pocket of majesty on my drive!
