Better living through a rigid schedule

I’m not sure how many times I’ve blogged about quitting smoking and/or losing weight, but I know it’s tedious, and I don’t intend to get into it again.  I don’t have much stomach anymore for my own flagellations on the topic, so I figure y’all are pretty far down that road yourselves.

I am, however, up on plane again with some lifestyle changes I badly need to make, and I’m trying to be more thoughtful this time about making them stick.  For one thing, I’m approaching it more prayerfully than I ever have before.  For another, I’m attacking idle time with regimentation.

How regimented is your day-to-day life?  I have a semi-regular routine for morning, midday, and evening, and I’d guess most people do.  I don’t have to dissect my day very carefully, however, to find numerous pockets of totally discretionary time, and it’s in those pockets that I trip and fall.

So I’m doing what I can to simply eliminate them in the early going.  Morning is the worst, and I’ve broken that down as granularly as one five-minute period to the next, from the time I get up to the time I get to work.  I think it’ll eventually drive me crazy, but if I can keep it up for several weeks, I think the equity will be worth it.

OK, that’s all.  I promise not to vomit endlessly here about how terribly interesting my personal shortcomings and respective struggles against them are.

  1. Thanks for the encouragement, Fighting! And you’re right–a good shot of upper respiratory misery does diminish certain destructive pleasures considerably. 🙂
