Barack Obama recently nominated Sonia Sotomayor, who has a vagina and was born to poor Puerto Rican immigrants, to the Supreme Court.
The coverage of and conversation about her nomination is full of two thoroughly obnoxious language errors. (One is from her own mouth, so that’s understandable.) Dig:
- There is no such thing as “reverse racism.” Racism is racism.
- “Latina woman” is redundant.

Believe it or not, Kizz (remember her? One of Mrs. Chili’s friends?) agrees with you on the “reverse racism” thing. She did a post on it (in part) over at her blog just a couple of days ago.
I agree that racism is racism, but I think we all know where “reverse racism” came from. I think most people just hear “racism” and automatically assume whites (likely male) oppressing non-whites (likely black). So, when a non-white achieves something that Person X believs to be undeserved based on qualifications, Person X cries out “reverse racism!”
On a different note, I was wondering if you could swing by the Eyrie when you have the time and check out my May 25th post. I’m very curious as to your opinion(s).

nhfalcon: Why would you think it would surprise me to have significant swaths of agreement with Kizz? My problem with Mrs. Chili and her sycophants has never been that we disagree on issue x or y, but rather what they choose to do with said disagreements, up to and including denial of their nature.
I have read your post several times. Its sheer length has so far prevented me from commenting. (I’d have broken that one up, Sparky.)

No problem. Like you, my positions on many social issues are inconsistent with mainstream conservatism, so significant overlap with folks on the left isn’t surprising.
