PC is well; was down less than 24 hours

Well, I couldn’t stand it.  I called GigaParts anyway, and they had the 92mm fan I needed in stock.  (Mostly; I had to adapt the wiring.)  Internal temperature, which had been (yipes!) 76ºC with the dead fan, is back to around 47ºC.

So now I have another fan coming for no reason.  Oh, well.  Maybe I’ll eBay it.

I tolerate most any aspect of my life in chaos better than my primary computer being down.  I didn’t even sleep well last night.  Man, that’s bent.  It’s also behind the extra fan.  See, I was doing something about it yesterday when I ordered that fan, so the dissonance was momentarily alleviated.  Then, there was new dissonance when I learned GigaParts had the fan, so I took time off from work to alleviate that dissonance.  (Aaron enjoyed riding with Daddy to “GiggleParts,” incidentally.)

For grins, I thought I’d price RAM upgrades while I was in poking around, and I’ve got something squirrelly that costs three or four times what everything else seems to.  Seriously, it’s incredible.  I’ve got 768MB (which used to be a lot); to double it to 1.5GB will cost me more than $400.

I think Santa might bring me a new box.

  1. Mrs. Chili: It feels worse than that. I have three computers; it was just my favorite that went down. I was denied almost no capabilities during its hiatus. But it was still unpleasant; irrationally so? 😉

Buzzregog: Exactly (the link is to a $230 PC, 1GB/160GB/DVD-RW). If I could double my RAM for $50-75 a GB or so, like the rest of the free fucking world can–not that I’m bitter–I’d be good with my current box for another 18-24 months, most likely.

  2. I absolutely hate when my “main” computer goes on the kaput. I’ve got a couple of laptops that are fine, but there’s just something about the one I normally use at home. Weird.
Oh…and you know I just saw your picture on here and come to the conclusion that I saw you the other day at Viet Huong. Actually, the waitress “tried” to give your guest my soup! lol Maybe next time, I’ll know and say hey.

  3. Scott: Now that’s funny. I made a joke about her putting her finger in it and getting to keep it, right? Such a tiny little blue marble is this…

That’s Melanie. She was my mentor and “work wife,” and is and ever shall be my close friend. And you’ll definitely run into me in VH again. In the past five years, I realistically estimate I’ve eaten there 300 times.

  4. Yep, that was the joke you made so it definitely was you. I was there today but didn’t think to look around. A group of coworkers were there and we talked business all through lunch.
