Lori from 1980

I’ve written before about how much I enjoy renewing contact with someone from the past.  It’s one of my favorite things about our hyperconnected lifestyles.

This is Lori.  I exchanged email with her this morning.  We haven’t spoken since the fourth grade.  That was 28 years ago.

Now how cool is that?  She’s married, careered, and happy—the whole catastrophe.  Heh.  She blogs here.

It can be dicey looking up folks, particularly from so far back.  As I told her, you don’t want to write a gushing and lengthy hiya email, and then not be remembered.  It’s kind of like moving in and thinking you’re going to get a big sloppy kiss, and instead getting a last-second cheek presentation.

I’ve learned that I have an unusually good memory for people and places.  Fortunately, Lori does too.  She’s thrown at least one thing at me that I don’t remember, and that never happens.  I think we’re going to start a list of things we remember, actually.

Perhaps such could be a resource useful even beyond our own amusement.  We were in private school in the fourth grade, and I’ve determined at places like MySpace and classmates.com that our class didn’t really hold together all that well.  So maybe we could have a grade school reunion of sorts sometime.  We could at least make our memories available online.

It’s a cool buzz, touching your “long ago”!
