It’s only prudent, really

  1. (the quote I got when I came here was “how’s that working out for you — being clever?” I want to say that to my students, but I also want to keep my job).

The FIRST lesson I teach in my composition and public speaking classes is an email lecture. My students get a spiffy little handout that explains what “reply” and “reply all” and “cc” and “bcc” do. I tell them, though, that if they come away from this class with NOTHING else, they need to understand that there is NO SUCH THING as a private email. If you SEND it from work, it BELONGS to work. There is NO SUCH THING as “unsend.”

I wonder how many of them will remember that lesson when they’re out in the real world…?

  2. I’m sorry… $5000?! Is it THAT spectacular? Doesn’t it kind of end the same way for $500? Oh wait, did he think he was buying her discretion?

  3. Wasn’t their some story about George Bernard Shaw and the price of purchased sexual favors? Or was that Winston Churchill? I can’t keep those oh so witty Brits straight.
