The Willises are dead

I hate to be the one to break it to you, in case I am.

Helen (Roxie Roker) has actually been gone for quite some time.  She died of breast cancer in 1995.  And did you know she’s Lenny Kravitz’s mother?

Tom (Franklin Cover) died last year of pneumonia.  His final credit seems to have been playing a justice of the peace on Will & Grace in 1999.

On a modern viewing, The Jeffersons was so spectacularly rotten that we try to pretend it was longer ago than it was, or that it was some other culture, not quite human, who made that show popular year after year.

Nope, it was us, and it wasn’t even 30 years ago.  We’re responsible for Alice and The Facts of Life, too.  Boo, us.

RIP, Willises.

  1. I did know that Roxie Roker is dead, and I did know that she’s Lenny Kravitz’s mother. I didn’t know about Roper.

I have fonder memories of those shows than the repeats will bear out, I’m sure. I CAN say this for them, though; they were better by a long shot than the stupid “reality” t.v. we’ve got going now.
