Hillary Clinton misstepped this week. She suggested that she was being treated poorly in a debate because she was a woman.

In my view, that should irritate any thinking person. And if you’re a Clinton supporter, it ought to make you mad as hell. All of these nasty mean men are beating up on me, and it’s not fair. Boo hoo hoo.

Her campaign jumped to damage control mode quickly, and indeed, it won’t ultimately matter. As Jonah Goldberg once remarked (more or less), Hillary Clinton could eat a puppy on live television while taking a bribe from a Klansman, and it still wouldn’t matter. She is the first woman who could plausibly win the presidency, and she will be the Democratic candidate.

I’ve commented before on how much I’m looking forward to this presidential election as a spectator. Part of the reason is that the Clintons are fascinating creatures, composed of pure politiconium. But Hillary apparently needs to be reminded that if she’s going to win the presidency, she’ll do so with her brain, not her vagina. It’s obvious and important that she is a woman, but she only diminishes herself when she explicitly mentions it.

It’s going to get interesting for Hillary, particularly past the primaries. Even her staunchest supporters should have no trouble admitting that she is not even half the politician Bill is. The questions are only going to get tougher, and I’m interested to see how she’ll handle it.

She’ll do well not to cry “Woman!” again.

  One Response to “Scorned?”

  1. I was PROFOUNDLY bothered by this. It’s obvious that we haven’t gotten past the surface stuff to get at what really matters, and the fact that the Democratic lineup are behaving like middle-school kids is disappointing and sickening to me. I can barely stand to watch their “debates.”
