"Go away, Daddy! Where’s Mommy?"

Nathan wakes up bleary, but happy. Aaron wakes up grumpy. He’s generally awake and content for a few minutes after he wakes up but before he comes out of his room, but you still leave him alone. He’ll be happy when he comes out, but he needs to decide when that is. (I can’t wait to see how this manifests in his teen years.)

But today he started crying before he came out. That’s unusual. Mommy was cooking, so I went to see about him. When I walked in, he pointed at the door and screamed the subject.

Often, I’m The Man. But sometimes, I need thick skin.

(Though Mommy was amused, it really pissed him off for me to be taking his picture in the middle of his meltdown.)

  1. I’m sorry. Please forgive me. It’s a moment-in-time thing. I’m trying to save us from being overcome with regret 30 years from now for not capturing magical moments such as these.

(I should have grabbed the camcorder so there would be sound too.)

  2. Yes, sometimes Daddy’s have to have thick skins.

The thing that slays me is I can be gone all day and Dad will hold down the fort, but the first thing my kids (14 y/o daughter & 12 y/o son) say to me when I walk in the door is “What’s for lunch/dinner?”

Ummm…why didn’t you ask your dad?
