Bob backs Rosie to host The Price Is Right

Bob Barker has enthusiastically mentioned Rosie O’Donnell as a possible successor to host The Price Is Right.

As I’ve made clear, The Price Is Right has been one of my favorite slices of popular culture for more than 30 years. It might surprise you, particularly if you know me well, that the idea of Rosie O’Donnell taking the reins does not horrify me. In fact, I think she’s the most sensible name I’ve heard bandied so far.

There’s no question that Rosie O’Donnell is a talented people person when she wants to be. She builds rapport readily, has a quick wit, and has a generally engaging vibe about her. All of these things would serve her well hosting Price.

I find Rosie O’Donnell hypocritical, selectively simple-minded, and almost completely obnoxious politically. I find Alec Baldwin all of the same things, but that doesn’t change my appreciation of his acting skill, which is considerable.

As with Baldwin, so with O’Donnell. She could do it. It might work and it might not, but if it didn’t work it wouldn’t be ridiculous on its face.

  1. Rosie on the Price is Right? Not so much. I honestly think they just need to cancel the show and come up with something else. I’ve got some fantastic ideas if they need any.

  2. I think it would have a good shot of working. As obnoxious as she can be, I think she’s smart enough to know she can’t grab Bob’s mike and start making a queen bitch of herself. I’d probably pull for an old-school host to step in for a couple of years before I’d pull for O’Donnell, but I’d definitely go with her over, say, George Hamilton.

No way will it be canceled.
